What is Among Us (among us) and how to play it?
The addictive multiplayer video game Among Us has recently become an online cultural phenomenon as it continues to grow with new features and platform support.
What kind of game is it?
Among Us is an online multiplayer video game developed by InnerSloth and available for PC, Android, iPhone, iPad and Nintendo Switch. It was first released on June 15, 2018 for iOS and Android and is due out on PlayStation and Xbox consoles in 2021.
Among Us combines a gripping murder mystery, alien space setting and social action in a fun genre reminiscent of the best social board games. It can be played online or locally over a network, and is best played with at least four or five people at the same time. There is no real single player option in the game at this time, although you can practice completing tasks in the offline “Freeplay” mode.
How to play Among Us?
In Among Us, you play as either a normal team member or a cheater, and this role is assigned randomly at the start of each round. You control a cartoon astronaut character in a space suit who can move around a spaceship (or other similar places).
As a member of the crew, you must complete distracting tasks on the ship (such as plugging in the electrical panel) while avoiding being killed by one or more of the crew’s rogues. During the game, the crew can figure out who the rogue is and throw him into space by popular vote.
If you play as a saboteur, you are tasked with killing crew members or sabotaging a ship, trying to blend in with the crowd so that no one suspects you.
The mesmerizing mix of mystery and high tension makes the game fun to watch on streaming platforms like Twitch, which has greatly contributed to its rise in popularity, especially after a well-known American politician released the game during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.
Can Among Us be played on different platforms?
Yes, you can. Among Us stands out for its cross-platform gameplay. Players on iPhone, iPad, Android, PC and Switch can play together by exchanging a special code that allows other players to join the game between rounds.
When you create a game or join a server, you will see a six letter “code” in the bottom center of the screen when you are in the lobby screen. In order for other players to join, they must launch Among Us and select Online > Private (Enter Code), then enter the code provided by someone in the lobby.
Among Us is a game for kids?
Among Us is rated E10+ in the US and 9+ on the App Store for “Rare/light horror/fear themes” and “Rare/light comic or imagined violence”.
The movie Among Us can be intimidating for young children because it has a sudden, violent and high degree of tension. Of course, it is up to parents to decide what is right for their child. Additionally, players must chat (or read chats) online to fully play the game, but InnerSloth restricts children under 13 to a “quick chat” system.
What is “free chat” and “quick chat” in Among Us?
When you first start playing Among Us, the game will ask you about your age. If you enter an age under 13, you will be limited to “quick chat”, which only allows you to communicate with other people using a menu of pre-defined sayings (templates). If you are 13 years old or older, you have the option to use “free chat” which allows you to type any text in a chat window that other players will see.
If you are 13 or older, you can switch from quick chat to free chat by selecting the Options (gear) button on the game’s start screen and choosing Data > Chat Type.
Cross-platform chat may also be subject to parental restrictions on the Nintendo Switch console.
What does “sus” mean in “Among Us”?
In Among Us, the term “sus” is short for “suspect”. You may be called “sus” if you are seen engaging in suspicious or questionable behavior, which means you may be a scammer. Your survival as a team member depends on carefully observing the behavior of other players, so sharing this knowledge with trusted people is essential to winning the game.
Of course, to be called “sus” you must have free chat activated (see above). You can also tell other players that someone is “sus” in the quick chat menu.
How to change your appearance in Among Us?
To change your character’s appearance in Among Us, log into the game and go to the laptop in the lobby. Activate the “use” button or select the “Customize” softkey at the bottom right of the screen.
When using a laptop, a screen will appear where you can change the skin color or complexion of the player, add a hat or pet. The changes will apply to all games and all servers, although the color you choose may not be available in another game if someone else has already taken it.
How to change your name in “Among Us”?
To change your name in Among Us, first click or tap on the “Account” tab on the home screen. On the Account Info tab that appears, you can select Random Name, or if you’re signed in (and have parental privileges on the Switch), you can click Edit Name and enter the name you want.
