As part of the announcement of macOS Ventura, Apple introduced new updates to the game. Metal 3 is the latest version of the Metal software, bringing a new experience to gamers.
Games like EA GRID Legends, Capcom’s Resident Evil Village, and Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky can now be played on Apple Silicon Macs.
Previously, these games were available on game consoles and/or high performance gaming computers. Since Apple Silicon is also on the iPad, game developers have the ability to port AAA games to both Mac and iPad. This is notable because many Mac and iPad gamers no longer need to feel left out because they don’t have a gaming-oriented computer.
According to Apple, press release:
Metal 3, the latest version of the software that powers the gaming experience on Apple platforms, introduces new features that take the Mac gaming experience to the next level and unlock the full potential of Apple’s silicon for years to come. MetalFX upscaling allows developers to quickly render complex scenes using less intensive frames, then apply resolution scaling and temporal antialiasing. The result is accelerated performance that gives players a more responsive experience and graphics that look stunning. Game developers also benefit from a new fast resource loading API that minimizes latency by providing a more direct path from storage to the GPU, giving games easy access to the high-quality textures and geometries needed to create massive worlds for realistic and immersive gameplay.
Additionally, players can use Game Center to SharePlay games with friends. Updates will roll out to iPad, Mac and iPhone later this year.
